RETURNING A CAT YOU ADOPTED FROM US
Cat AdopTion Service always "welcomes back" any cats thet you adopted from us. Under our cat "return policy," we always take back cats from adoptions that did not work out. If you have one of our cats -- or if you have any reason to believe you found a cat that might have been placed through our organization, please call or e-mail us to arrange for the return.RELINQUISHING YOUR PET (For cats not adopted from us)
Cat AdopTion Service does not accept relinquished pets. Our cats come directly off the street, or from city and county shelters. We will not respond to e-mails or telephone calls from persons wishing to relinquish their pets.
Please reconsider sending away your pet. Only a tiny fraction of these throw-away pets will find another home. Pet ownership is a lifetime responsibility, not one to be abandoned when it becomes inconvenient or expensive.
If you cannot keep your pet where you are living, then it is time to move. There are many rentals that do permit pets.
If your cat is 7 years or older, very few people will even consider adopting it. Your best bet might be a lifetime care/retirement program, such as that offered by Friends of Cats, www.FriendsofCats.org
If you are still determined to get rid of your cat, make sure you have it spayed or neutered before sending it anywhere other than to a reputable rescue organization. Low-cost spay/neuter services are available upon referral from Animal Welfare Foundation, 619-702-4400. Have the new owner reimburse you for the cost - this will also ensure that your "free to good home" cat doesn't end up being sold to a laboratory as a research subject. You will have the most luck finding a rescue placement for your cat outside of kitten season (i.e., December through March).
